January 21, 2012

Dordt shot over 70 percent for the majority of the first half and finished 61.3 percent for the first half as they blew away the Nebraska Wesleyan women, 78-49, in GPAC women's basketball on Saturday (Jan. 21) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln, Neb.

Dordt avenges an earlier loss to the Prairie Wolves as NWU defeated the Defenders, 63-60, on Dec. 10 in Sioux Center, Iowa.

The Defenders jumped out to an early 11-2 lead and never looked back again. NWU trailed by seven points at the 11:21 mark but Dordt went on a 9-0 run and rolled from the there. The Defenders led by 19 at halftime, 46-27 and maintained a lead of over 20 the rest of the way.

Dordt, averaging 62.2 points per game, finished with 78 on 52.3 percent shooting for the game. Three players were in double figures led by Brittany Spronk with 16 points off the bench.

Mallory Shanahan scored 13 to lead NWU while Melissa Bennett had 10 points and seven rebounds.
