Nebraska Wesleyan University senior guard Shea Rasmussen has been named this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for the week of Dec. 4-11.
Rasmussen (Longmont, Colo.) averaged 26.0 points and made 10 3-pointers to lead NWU to a 1-1 record on the week. She scored 32 points in a win at Dordt where the Prairie Wolves snapped their six-game losing streak. Rasmussen also had 20 points in a loss at No. 8 Hastings. She was 20-31 (64.5%) from the floor and hit 62.5% from 3-point range (10-16) on the week.
Rasmussen is just the third NWU women’s basketball player to ever earn GPAC Player-of-the-Week recognition. The other time a NWU player received the award was Shuree Oldehoeft during the week of Feb. 11-17, 2001 and last season with Sadie Struebing receiving the recognition.
The Longmont, Colo., native needed 28 points to surpass the 1,000 career point mark heading into the Dordt game. With a 3-pointer late in the second half she equaled the 1,000 point mark and now has 1,004 for her career to rank 10th on the NWU all-time scoring charts. She is also second on the career 3-point lists with 153 made 3-pointers, just 10 shy of the school record.
Nebraska Wesleyan will look for their second straight win this Saturday (Dec. 17) when they return home to face Mount Marty College in GPAC women’s basketball action at 2 pm in Snyder Arena.
