Amy Sander has resigned as the head women’s basketball coach at Nebraska Wesleyan University to accept a new position as the top assistant women’s basketball coach at Minnesota State University, Mankato, a NCAA Division II school in Mankato, Minn.
“I really appreciate what Amy has done for the NWU women’s basketball program in her three seasons here,” Nebraska Wesleyan Athletic Director Ira Zeff said. “We wish her nothing but the best in her new opportunity at Minnesota State University.”
Sander served as the head women’s basketball coach at NWU for three seasons posting a 21-59 record during her tenure. She also taught in the NWU Health & Human Performance department and served as assistant to the athletic director with various administrative duties.
Sander will join interim head coach Pam Gohl at MSU. The Mavericks were 23-9 during the 2007-08 season and advanced to the NCAA North Central Regional Championship game.
NWU is expected to return four starters and 13 letterwinners for the 2008-09 season, in addition to the eight newcomers in the recruiting class.
The search for a new head coach at NWU will begin immediately.
