Tigers Roll Past Prairie Wolves

Doane College opened up the second half on a 21-2 run to jolt out to a 31-point lead as the 25th-ranked Tigers rolled past Nebraska Wesleyan 74-47 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday night (Nov. 25) in Crete, Neb.

NWU (1-3, 0-1 GPAC) was within eight points at 34-26 with just under four minutes to play in the first half. However, the Prairie Wolves would make just four field goals the rest of the entire game, spanning almost 24 minutes of play.

The Prairie Wolves were just 3-23 (13.0) from the floor in the second half and scored only 17 points. The first field goal for NWU in the second half came at the 9:28 mark when Kelsie Woodard connected on a 3-point shot.

The Tigers (6-2, 1-0 GPAC) finished the game shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from 3-point range. The big stat of the game was the Tigers' 20 offensive rebounds. Doane outrebounded NWU, 50-36.

Four players reached double figures for Doane led by Hannah Helman with 17.

NWU was led by Shea Rasmussen who had 10 points. All 10 of her points came in the first half as she finished just 3-12 from the field. Sadie Struebing added nine points and a team-high six rebounds.

The Prairie Wolves return to action Saturday (Nov. 29) when they travel to St. Paul, Minn., to take on the College of St. Catherine.
