Women Snap Losing Streak With Win at Central

Three players scored in double figures as Nebraska Wesleyan snapped its seven game winning streak with a 80-70 victory over Central College on Saturday (Dec. 20) in Pella, Iowa.

NWU (2-7) scored a season high 80 points to earn their first win in nearly a month. After opening the year with a 55-53 win over Luther College on Nov. 21, the Prairie Wolves had lost the last seven.

The Prairie Wolves built a 39-33 lead at halftime after taking over the lead at the 4:22 mark of the first half. After Denae Becker converted a pair of free throws with 3:44 to play before halftime, the Prairie Wolves would never trail again.

Nebraska Wesleyan opened the second half on a 14-6 run to build up a 14 point lead, but Central would battle back. Laura Porter made a basket with just under seven minutes to play to cut the lead down to one point at 60-59. NWU answered with a 9-2 run over the next two minutes sparked by five points from Shea Rasmussen as NWU would seal the win.

Rasmussen led NWU with a career high 21 points on 7-17 shooting. Katy Golden scored 19 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while Sadie Struebing chipped in 12 points and six rebounds.

The Prairie Wolves shot 44.8 percent from the field, their highes field goal percentage of the season. NWU only committed 14 turnovers, which was the lowest total of the year.

Sarah Paulson and Andrea Clark scored 12 points for Central College who falls to 4-7 on the season.

Nebraska Wesleyan will have over a week off for the holidays before returning to action on Dec. 29-30 when they take part in the University of Dallas Tournament in Irving, Texas. NWU will face defending NCAA III National Champion Howard Payne University on Monday, then take on the host school, University of Dallas on Tuesday.
