Nebraska Wesleyan led nearly the entire first half and were down only one point with over six minutes to play, but Doane College finally pulled away in the end to hold on for a 64-53 victory in Great Plains Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night (Jan. 7) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln, Neb.

NWU (3-10, 0-6 GPAC), who had lost to Doane 74-47 in the first meeting, put up great defensive effort in the first half and made the Tigers work for everything they earned. All-American Lindsay Anderson took over for Doane in the second half and finished with a game-high 21 points.

The Tigers ended the first half on a 13-4 run to take a 31-27 lead at halftime. The first lead of the game came with just 43 seconds remaining before intermission.

Doane built up a lead of as many as nine points in the second half, but NWU would not fold. The Prairie Wolves scored seven straight points to pull within two points, and eventually tied the game at the 8:12 mark but could never take over the lead.

NWU, who played its second straight game without leading scorer Shea Rasmussen, had both of its post players reach double figures in scoring. Katy Golden led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Sadie Struebing added 12 points and eight rebounds. Struebing had nine points and seven rebounds in the first half before being sidelined with fouls.

The Prairie Wolves will return home on Saturday (Jan. 10) to try and earn their first GPAC win of the season when they host Dordt College at 2 p.m.
