Big Run Propels Dordt to 57-44 Win

January 10, 2009

Dordt College went on a 33-5 run late in the first half and early in the second half as the Defenders pulled away from Nebraska Wesleyan University defeating the Prairie Wolves, 57-44, in Great Plains Athletic Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon (Jan. 10) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln, Neb.

Nebraska Wesleyan led 20-9 with 9:35 to play in the first half, but would score just three points the final 9:35 of the half.

The second half started out just as slow for the Prairie Wolves as they made just one field goal in the first 10 minutes of the half as Dordt built up a 17-point lead. NWU made one final push to pull within 10 points twice, but they could never get it to single digits.

The Prairie Wolves (3-11, 0-7 GPAC) shot just 30.6 percent from the floor and made only 1-6 of the 3-point attempts.

Katy Golden led NWU with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Sadie Struebing added 11 points and six rebounds.

Dordt (8-9, 3-4 GPAC) had three players in double figures led by Amber Soodsma who scored 16 points and had four steals.

NWU will now have over one week off until they travel to Mitchell, S.D., to take on Dakota Wesleyan on Sunday (Jan. 18).
