Hastings College closed out the end of the first half and opened the second half with a 30-9 run to pull away from Nebraska Wesleyan as the 17th-ranked Broncos defeated the Prairie Wolves, 74-52, on Wednesday (Feb. 4) in GPAC women's basketball action at Lynn Farrell Arena in Hastings, Neb.

NWU trailed 24-22 with 4:51 to play in the first half, but the Prairie Wolves would manage just four points before haftime as Hastings would mount a 36-26 halftime lead.

The Broncos came out firing in the second half and outscored NWU, 16-5 in the first six minutes to put the game out of reach, and win their 17th straight game against Nebraska Wesleyan.

Sadie Struebing was the story of the game for Nebraska Wesleyan. The sophomore from Brainard, Neb., outdueled one of the premier post players in the GPAC in Hastings' Lindsay Ducey. Struebing scored a career-high 20 points, shooting 7-10 from the floor and 6-8 from the free throw stripe. Ducey, who averages nearly a double-double, scored 18 points but was just 3-7 from the field and had six turnovers. She was 12-12 from the free throw line.

The Prairie Wolves again struggled with the turnover bug as the Broncos pressure defense forced them into 29 total turnovers. NWU finished the game shooting 38.8 percent from the floor.

Struebing was the lone NWU player to reach double figures. Hannah Marshall came off the bench to go a perfect 3-3 from 3-point range for nine points, and Maggie Packard added eight off the bench.

Four players scored in double figures for Hastings, led by Kay Broekemeier who had 19 points and nine rebounds, including five 3-pointers. Ducey had 18, Rachel Isherwood scored 11 and Heather McKeon added 10. The Broncos shot just 37.1 percent from the floor in the game and 33.3 percent from 3-point range (8-24).

NWU will now face their second of the three straight ranked opponents on the road when they travel to Yankton, S.D., on Saturday (Feb. 7) to take on #15 Mount Marty College.
