The 17th-ranked Hastings College Broncos jumped out to a 21-point halftime lead and cruised to a 76-55 victory over the Nebraska Wesleyan University women in Great Plains Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 21) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln, Neb.
The Prairie Wolves shot just 23.1 percent in the first half and fell behind 39-18 at intermission. NWU did cut the lead down to 15 points at one point in the second half but they could get no closer.
The Broncos (22-6, 12-6 GPAC) applied a pressure defense and forced NWU into 21 turnovers. The Prairie Wolves finished the game shooting 33.9 percent from the field and just 56.0 percent from the free throw line (14-25).
Three Hastings players reached double figures led by point guard Kim Faimon who scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Lindsay Ducey added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Alicia Statler came off the bench to score 12 points with eight rebounds.
Katy Golden had another solid performance for NWU scoring 17 points with nine rebounds. Ashley Bordovsky finished her home career with 11 points, six rebounds and five assists to move up to sixth all-time in assists.
Bordovsky, Amy Stratbucker, Char Mae McLean and Kelsie Woodard all were honored before the game as graduating seniors.
The Prairie Wolves will end the season in California in the AD3I West Region Tournament.
