Felicia TeKolste blocked a Doane 3-point attempt and then made 2-2 at the free throw line to give Nebraska Wesleyan a 54-51 victory over Doane in GPAC women's basketball action on Wednesday (Jan. 9) at the Haddix Center in Crete, Neb.

The win for the Prairie Wolves was their first conference victory of the season as they improve to 3-12 overall and 1-9 in GPAC. Doane has now dropped 13 straight games and remains winless in conference play.

For NWU, it was just the second win over rival Doane College in the last 18 meetings as the Tigers had won 16 of the past 17.

NWU led the entire game and built up a lead by as many as 15 points in the first half. Doane cut the lead down to nine points at halftime.

With 30 seconds remaining in the game the Tigers trimmed the lead to three points. NWU was called for an over and back violation giving Doane the ball back. A Doane turnover gave the ball back to the Prairie Wolves, but a missed free throw with 21.3 seconds remaining gave the Tigers the ball with a chance to tie.

Doane attempted the game-tying 3-pointer but TeKolste blocked the shot and was fouled when she gathered the rebound. TeKolste made both free throw attempts to go up by five points.

Doane did score another field goal to cut the lead to three, but could get no closer.

Mallory Shanahan, who was sidelined with foul trouble in the first half, led the Prairie Wolves with 15 points. TeKolste added 13 points for NWU.
