Women End Streak With 55-45 Win at St. Catherine's

The Nebraska Wesleyan University women's basketball team got a much needed victory on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 29) with a 55-45 win at St. Catherine's University in St. Paul, Minn.

With the win, the Prairie Wolves pick up their first victory since the opening game of the season and end their 10-game losing streak. NWU is now 2-10 overall.

The Prairie Wolves built up a 32-27 lead at halftime as Felicia Tekolste scored 11 points in the first 20 minutes.

NWU used a full-court pressing defense to both St. Kate's all game long as the Prairie Wolves forced 24 total turnovers and turned those turnovers into points.

Three different Prairie Wolves reached double figures in scoring for NWU despite shooting just 32.8 percent as a team.

Mallory Shanahan led the way for the Prairie Wolves with 17 points and seven rebounds. Tekolste finished with 13 points and four assists. Emily Leines came off the bench to add 13 points and four assists, shooting 3-6 from 3-point range.

The Prairie Wolves will return to the challenging GPAC schedule on Wednesday night as NWU will host Morningside College, ranked No. 3 in the NAIA II National poll.
