Broncos Hold Off NWU Women 56-49

Hastings College ended Nebraska Wesleyan's threat of earning their first GPAC victory as the Broncos defeated the Prairie Wolves, 56-49, in women's basketball action on Wednesday night (Dec. 5) at Snyder Arena.

With both teams shooting under 30 percent in the first half, Hastings led 19-14 at the halftime break.

Nebraska Wesleyan trailed by nine points in the second half but climbed back within two points with 3:27 to play as Kaitlyn Janata hit a jumper on a fast break to make the score 48-46 with 3:27 to play. From there, the Broncos would end the game on a 8-2 run to finish the game.

The Prairie Wolves (1-7, 0-4 GPAC) shot just 33.3 percent from the floor and were outrebounded 45-37, including 18 offensive boards for the Broncos.

Mallory Shanahan once again lead the Prairie Wolves with 20 points and nine rebounds. She was the lone NWU player to reach double figures as Janata added eight points.

Chelsey Morton led Hastings with 12 points and three steals.
