Chapman Hands NWU 65-61 Loss in AD3I Championship Game

Chapman used a 12-0 run late in the second half to overcome an eight point deficit and they held on to defeat Nebraska Wesleyan, 65-61, in the championship game of the AD3I Tournament in Irving, Texas.

Nebraska Wesleyan ended the 2010-11 season with an 11-16 overall record.

After trailing by two points at halftime, NWU came out strong in the second half. In a game that was tied 11 times and had nine lead changes the Prairie Wolves built up a eight point lead in the second half. Katy Golden hit a pair of free throws to put NWU ahead 56-48 with 7:28 to play in the game.

From there, the Prairie Wolves would go scoreless for the next five minutes as Chapman took a four point lead. Sadie Struebing hit a basket to get within two points, then Mallory Shanahan tied the game at 60-60 with a basket with 1:59 to play. However, Chapman closed the game with a 5-1 run to earn the win.

One highlight for the Prairie Wolves was senior Katy Golden scoring 13 points to end her career with exactly 1,000 career points. She becomes the second player this season with 1,000 points as fellow senior Sadie Struebing also went over 1,000 points earlier this year.

Four of the five starters reached double figures for NWU. Besides Golden's 13, Shea Rasmussen had 121 with Sadie Struebing and Janelle Baal adding 11. Mallory Shanahan just missed double figures with nine points.

Brandi Hood led Chapman with 13 points and 10 rebounds
