Concordia University came out swinging and took it to Nebraska Wesleyan early then held on to defeat the Prairie Wolves in four sets, 3-1, to spoil the volleyball home opener for NWU on Tuesday (Sept. 18) in Snyder Arena.

The Bulldogs (4-9, 1-3) handed NWU the losses in scores of 25-20, 27-25, 15-25, 26-24. It was the first conference win of the season for Concordia, while NWU (5-5, 0-2) falls to .500 overall and is still looking for their first conference win.

NWU had eight errors and hit .030 in set one as Concordia jumped out to an early lead and never trailed in the first set.

Set two was much more competitive as no team ever led by more than three points. NWU had a set point at 25-24, but a kill by the Bulldogs tied the set. NWU then had back-to-back attack errors to give Concordia the win.

The third set was a dominating performance for the Prairie Wolves who hit .591 as a team with 14 kills and just one error. With the set at 12-10, NWU would outscore the Bulldogs 13-5 to win the set.

In the fourth set, Concordia led the entire way until a kill by Katelyn Walsh tied the set at 24-24 as the Prairie Wolves clawed back. A Bulldog kill gave them the one point lead, then another error by NWU sealed the match.

Amanda Kisker had a double-double with a match-high 19 kills for Concordia with 13 digs.

For Nebraska Wesleyan, Katelyn Walsh had 16 kills while Cody Long and Hannah Softley each had 12 kills. Alex Springman dished out 48 assists.
