November 24, 2009

The Nebraska Wesleyan University volleyball team finished the 2009 season ranked No. 23 in the final AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 poll that was released on Nov. 24.

The final ranking for Nebraska Wesleyan marks just the fifth time in school history that a NWU volleyball team has ended the season in the AVCA Top 25, and the first time the Prairie Wolves have appeared in the final poll since 2002.

Nebraska Wesleyan ended the 2009 season with an 18-12 overall record.  The Prairie Wolves qualified for their sixth straight NCAA III National Tournament, and for the second straight season advanced to the semifinals of the regionals.  This season, NWU defeated Wisconsin-Platteville in the opening round of the Central Regional then lost to Carthage College in the regional semifinals in St. Louis, Mo.

Washington University (Mo.), the winner of the NCAA III Central Regional, ended the season ranked #1 after winning the NCAA III Tournament Championship.
