Four Earn All-GPAC in Volleyball

Four members of the Nebraska Wesleyan University volleyball team were named to the 2009 Great Plains Athletic Conference Volleyball All-Conference team that was announced Wednesday (Nov. 18).  Junior Laura Brammeier was the top honoree for NWU as she earned All-GPAC First Team honors.  Sophomore setter Ashley Jedlicka was named to the All-GPAC Second Team while seniors Brittny Barber and Elise Schmid were honorable mention All-GPAC selections.

Brammeier (Lincoln, Neb.), who also received AVCA Second Team All-American recognition, led NWU with 383 kills this season.  She finished the season ranked fifth in the GPAC in kills averaging 3.48 per set.  She was third on the team in digs with 393 and also added 34 total blocks.  This is her first All-GPAC recognition.

Jedlicka (Schuyler, Neb.) handed out 1,048 assists on the season to lead the team and rank fourth in the GPAC averaging 9.44 assists per game.  She moved up to eighth on the NWU career list for assists.  Jedlicka also had 291 digs this season to rank fourth on the team in that category.  She was honorable mention All-GPAC as a freshman last season.

Barber (Fairbury, Neb.) earns her first All-Conference honor in her final season with the Prairie Wolves.  She was second on the team with 332 kills averaging 2.89 per set.  She finished her career with 1,009 kills.

Schmid (David City, Neb.), who also received AVCA honorable mention All-America, led NWU with 133 total blocks.  She was fourth in the GPAC in blocks, and was 10th in the GPAC in hitting percentage with a .288 attack percentage.

Randa Hulstein from Northwestern was the GPAC Player-of-the-Year for the second straight season and Kyle Van Den Bosch from Northwestern is the Coach-of-the-Year.

NWU finished the 2009 season with an 18-12 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA III Central Regionals.  The Prairie Wolves finished 7-9 in GPAC play to place eigth in the league standings.
