October 21, 2009

Kelsey Elman had 14 kills and no attack errors to lead 20th-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan to a 3-0 sweep over Concordia in a Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball match on Wednesday night (Oct. 21) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.Kelsey Elman had 14 kills with 0 errors

It was the second win of the season for the Prairie Wolves over the Bulldogs as they defeated Concordia, 3-2, in Seward earlier this season.  NWU improves to 17-8 overall and 7-6 in GPAC play and snapped their two match losing streak which was the longest of the season.

Elman finished with an unbelievable .609 hitting percentage for NWU, and it was a different role for her during the match.  Since the injury to starting libero Erika Goldsmith, Elman has been filling in as the defensive specialist.  Tonight the Prairie Wolves went without a libero and it proved to be the right move as Elman delivered.

Laura Brammeier also reached double figures in kills with 10 for NWU.  As a team, the Prairie Wolves recorded 45 kills and an attack percentage of .324.  Concordia hit .170 as they committed 21 errors and had 39 kills.

Ashley Jedlicka handed out 34 assists and Brittny Barber led the team with 10 digs, just missing a double-double as she also had nine kills.

For Concordia, Dani Hoagland led the way with 13 kills and a .440 hitting percentage.  Chelsea Vaudt added 11 kills.

NWU will try to ride this momentum into Friday's match when they host GPAC rival Doane College.
