Defenders Roll Past Prairie Wolves

October 17, 2009

Dordt College wasted little time in defeating Nebraska Wesleyan University in volleyball as they cruised past the Prairie Wolves, 3-0, in little over one hour on Saturday night (Oct. 17) in Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball action in Sioux Center, Iowa.  Dordt won with scores of 25-10, 25-19, 25-18.

The loss marked the first time all season that NWU suffered back-to-back losses.  The 21st-ranked Prairie Wolves fall to 16-8 overall and 6-6 in the GPAC.

Dordt jumped ahead 5-0 in the first set and never looked back as they rolled to the 25-10 victory.  The second set was much more competive as NWU challenged the Defenders throughout the set.  Set three was more domination for Dordt as they led 8-0 early and closed out the match with the 25-18 victory.

NWU hit just .020 as a team with 27 kills and 24 hitting errors.  The Prairie Wolves also committed four service errors, three reception errors, three ball handling errors and two block errors.  Laura Brammeier had seven kills and 23 digs to lead NWU.

The Defenders had 42 kills as Jana Van Zanten and Kendra Potgeter each had 11 kills.

Nebraska Wesleyan returns home for a pair of GPAC matches against old rivals this week.  The Prairie Wolves host Concordia University on Wednesday night and Doane College on Friday in Snyder Arena.
