Volleyball Wins GPAC Opener Against Warriors

Nebraska Wesleyan dropped game one, but rallied to win the next three sets to defeat Midland Lutheran College, 3-1, in the Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball opener for the Prairie Wolves on Tuesday night (Sept. 16) in Fremont, Neb.

NWU remains undefeated at 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the GPAC, while the Warriors fall to 4-11 overall, 0-3 GPAC.

The first set was very competitive with the Warriors coming out on top in the tight game, 26-24. NWU then settled down and controlled the next three sets winning with scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-18.

Three Prairie Wolves reached double digits in kills led by Cara Ward who had 16 kills with an outstanding .500 hitting percentage. Brittny Barber pounded out 14 kills and Abby Bade added 10. Overall, NWU had 60 kills with a team hitting percentage of .299, while the Warrior hit only .171 with 42 kills.

Kirsten Foster led the passing attack for NWU with 33 asssists, while Ashley Jedlicka added 16. Erika Goldsmith led the team with 29 digs.

Shelby Hageman and Amanda Hunt each had 11 kills to lead Midland Lutheran.

Nebraska Wesleyan will take part in another key NCAA III Tournament this weekend when they travel to Indianola, Iowa to play in the Simpson College Tournament.
