NWU Dominates Fifth Set to Down Sioux Falls

Nebraska Wesleyan had an impressive fifth set as they rolled past the University of Sioux Falls, 15-4, to clinch a 3-2 victory over the Cougars in Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball action on Friday night (Oct. 9) in Lincoln, Neb. NWU won in scores of 25-21, 25-27, 25-19, 18-25, 15-4.

The Prairie Wolves, ranked #20 in the AVCA/DIII Top 25, had eight kills and no errors as they had a hitting percentage of .571 in the deciding fifth set. That came after a disappointing set four where NWU managed just six kills and a .000 hitting percentage.

NWU finished the match with 64 kills and a hitting percentage of .209, while USF had 68 kills. Nebraska Wesleyan could have ended the match much earlier as they had a set point in set two before the Cougars rallied back to win 27-25.

Three players were in double figures in kills for Nebraska Wesleyan led by Brittny Barber with 18. Laura Brammeier added 16, while Elise Schmid had 15. Schmid also had six block assists.

Ashley Jedlicka had a double-double for NWU with 51 assists and 11 digs. Kelsey Elman led NWU with 30 digs.

Kinzie VanVoorst led Sioux Falls with 17 kills and 20 digs.

NWU will be right back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Dakota Wesleyan University at 3 pm.
