Three Prairie Wolves Earn All-GPAC in Volleyball

Three players on the Nebraska Wesleyan University volleyball team  were named to the 2011 Great Plains Athletic Conference Volleyball All-Conference team that was announced Wednesday (Nov. 16). Sophomore Caitlin Anderson and freshman Cody Long were both Second-Team All-GPAC selections, while sophomore Mackenzie Hite was honorable mention.

Anderson (Plattsmouth, Neb.) earns Second-Team All-GPAC for the second consecutive season as the Prairie Wolves starting setter. Anderson averaged 8.80 assists per set to rank fourth in the GPAC in assists. She was GPAC Setter of the Week during the 2011 season. On the year she led the team with 862 assists and was second on the team with 282 digs. The Plattsmouth, Neb., native had 16 double-doubles on the year, including nine straight during the month of October.

Long (Hebron, Neb.) is a Second-Team All-GPAC performer in her first season with the Prairie Wolves. Long led the team with 244 kills on the season averaging 2.84 kills per set to rank sixth in the GPAC. She had a season-high 22 kills in a match against Doane. The Thayer Central H.S., graduate also had 237 digs to rank third on the team in digs.

Hite (Grant, Neb.) was named honorable mention All-GPAC as a libero. Hite led the team with 439 digs averaging 4.35 digs per set to rank sixth in the GPAC. The Perkins County H.S., graduate was named to the All-Tournament team at all three tournaments that NWU competed in during the 2011 season.

Susan Rollman from Doane College was the GPAC Player-of-the-Year while Sara Horn from Morningside is the Coach-of-the-Year.

NWU finished the 2011 season with a 16-12 overall record and an 8-8 mark in the GPAC to finish in a tie for seventh in the league standings.
