Volleyball Ends Regular Season With Loss at Dordt

November 5, 2011

Nebraska Wesleyan had a disappointing end to the regular season as they dropped all three matches in the final week as Dordt College defeated the Prairie Wolves, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 5) in Sioux Center, Iowa.

The Prairie Wolves finish the 2011 season 16-12 overall and an even 8-8 in GPAC play to finish in a tie for seventh place in the league standings.

NWU had a five-match winning streak entering the week and faced three teams that were all ahead of them in the standings. The Prairie Wolves fell to Doane, Midland and Dordt to finish 8-8.

It was a very competitive first two sets as Dordt earned 26-24, 25-23 wins in the first two sets. The Defenders then easily won set three 25-16 to defeat the Prairie Wolves after NWU had won the first match between the two teams in Lincoln.

Karny Kuehl and Cody Long both had eight kills to lead the NWU attack. Katie Schoen handed out 30 assists, while Long led the team with 12 digs.

Katelyn Schuller had 11 kills to pace the Defenders.

Nebraska Wesleyan will now await word on an NCAA Tournament selection when the field is announced on Nov. 7.
