NWU Takes Concordia Down in Five Games

The Nebraska Wesleyan University volleyball team took part in another typical Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup between rivals, but the Prairie Wolves came out on top in the end as they held on for a 3-2 victory in five sets over Concordia University on Wednesday night (Sept. 23) in Concordia's new Health & Human Performance Athletic Center.

The Prairie Wolves, who won their fifth straight match to improve to 12-3 overall and 2-1 in the GPAC, dropped set one, 19-25, but bounced back to win the next two sets, 25-18, 25-18. Concordia won the fourth set, 25-17, then NWU closed out the match with a 15-9 win in the deciding fifth set.

After getting off to a sluggish start with a .030 hitting percentage in set one, the Prairie Wolves proved they were the 24th-ranked team in NCAA III by hitting .433 with 14 kills in the second set. They finished the match with a .169 hitting percentage.

Laura Brammeier continued her solid play as she led the Prairie Wolves with 18 kills. Brittny Barber was the only other player in double figures in kills with 11. Ashley Jedlicka handed out 36 assists.

For Concordia, Dani Hoagland had a monster match with 23 kills and a .442 hitting percentage.

Nebraska Wesleyan will be on the road again this weekend for a pair of key GPAC matches. The Prairie Wolves take on Dana College on Friday, then play Midland Lutheran College Saturday afternoon.
