Volleyball Team Wins Three at Wartburg Invitational

For the second straight weekend, the Nebraska Wesleyan University volleyball team went 3-1 at a tournament against NCAA Division III opposition. The Prairie Wolves won both matches on Friday, but lost to St. Mary's (Minn.) on Saturday morning before bouncing back for a win against Wisconsin-La Crosse.

The Prairie Wolves improve to 7-2 overall and now return home for their home opener on Tuesday (Sept. 15) against Great Plains Athletic Conference rival Hastings College. It will be the only home match for NWU this month.

At the Wartburg Invitational, NWU got off to a quick start with an easy 3-0 victory over Loras College. Laura Brammeier had 15 kills with a .600 hitting percentage.

In the second match of the game, the Prairie Wolves outlasted the host school Wartburg for a dramatic 3-2 win. NWU lost the fourth set, 28-26, but came back to win the fifth set, 16-14. Brammeier had 22 kills, while Brittny Barber added 15 kills. Ashley Jedlicka handed out 60 assists.

NWU suffered their only loss Saturday morning falling, 3-0, to St. Mary's (Minn.). All three sets were close with scores of 29-27, 25-22, 25-22. Brammeier had 14 kills and Jedlicka had 41 assists.

In the final match of the invite, the Prairie Wolves had a fairly easy victory over Wisconsin-La Cross. NWU won the first two sets, 25-15, 25-14, dropped set three 17-25 then won the match with a 25-17 victory.

Ashley Jedlicka was named to the All-Tournament Team.
