Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball placed four players on the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) All-Independent volleyball team that was recently announced. Four NWU players were named to the All-AD3I teams with Mackenzie Hite and Katelyn Walsh named to AD3I First-Team, Karny Kuehl was selected to the Second-Team and Hannah Softley was honorable mention. In addition, Mackenzie Hite was named the AD3I Volleyball Player-of-the-Year.
Hite, a junior defensive specialist from Grant, Neb., led the team with 541 digs on the season averaging 5.25 digs per set to rank fourth in all NCAA Division III. She was named AVCA All-Central Region earlier this week. Hite now has 1,255 career digs to rank 10th all-time at Nebraska Wesleyan and her 4.1 digs per set career average ranks third all-time. She was All-Independent Second-Team in 2011.
Walsh, a sophomore outside hitter from Jefferson, S.D., earns All-AD3I First-Team honors for the first time in her career. Walsh led the Prairie Wolves with 372 kills to average 3.61 kills per set to rank 14th in NCAA III in kills per set. Her 3.61 kills per set was the seventh best average in NWU history.
Kuehl was named to the AD3I Second Team as a middle blocker. The sophomore from Grand Island, Neb., was second on the team in both kills and blocks in her second year as a starter. Kuehl had 235 kills (2.28 kps) and 63 total blocks (0.61 bps)
Softley earned honorable mention honors as an outside hitter. Softley, the lone senior on the team from David City, Neb., had 195 kills and 56 total blocks for the year. Softley closed her career with 278 total blocks to rank seventh all-time at Nebraska Wesleyan.
Nebraska Wesleyan finished the 2012 season with a 13-15 overall record.
The All-Independent volleyball teams were selected by the coaches from the Association of Division III Independent member schools. The Association of Division III Independents consists of 10 DIII independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition.
