Hannah Softley made her last kill in a Nebraska Wesleyan uniform a memorable one as she pounded out the game-winning point to give the Prairie Wolves a 3-1 victory over Dordt in the 2012 volleyball season finale on Saturday (Nov. 3) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.
Nebraska Wesleyan won the match in scores of 25-23, 14-25, 28-26, 25-21 to finish the season with a 13-15 overall, 7-9 GPAC record.
The Prairie Wolves built up a 19-10 lead in set one and looked as if they would cruise to the first set win. Dordt rallied and got within one point at 24-23, but Katelyn Walsh sealed the win with a kill.
Set two was controlled by Dordt the entire way as they had 18 team kills in the second set.
Dordt led 19-14 in set three and looked as if they were taking control of the match. The Prairie Wolves then scored seven of the next nine point to tie the set at 21-21. Teams traded point and NWU had three set points before Cicely Batie ended the set with a kill for a 28-26 win.
With the teams tied 16-16 in set four, the Prairie Wolves got a kill from Walsh and error by the Defenders for a two point margin and Dordt would never get closer.
Set point ended fittingly as the lone NWU senior, Hannah Softley, pounded the ball to the ground sending the Prairie Wolves home with victory.
