6th-Ranked Broncos Take Down Prairie Wolves

6th-ranked Hastings College remained unbeaten in conference play and on top of the Great Plains Athletic Conference standings as the Broncos defeated Nebraska Wesleyan, 3-0, in volleyball action on Wednesday night (Oct. 24) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.

Hastings won in scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-23 to complete the season sweep of the Prairie Wolves.

The Broncos (22-3, 12-0 GPAC) pounded out 47 kills on the night and took the first two sets with ease.

NWU (12-12, 6-6 GPAC) did not back down in the third and deciding set. The Prairie Wolves trailed 6-2, but went on a 9-3 run to take a 11-9 lead. NWU maintained the lead up to a 21-19 advantage. From there, three straight kills by the Broncos gave Hastings a 22-21 lead. NWU got a kill by Cicely Batie to tie the match again, but an attack error and Bronco block gave Hastings set point. NWU extended the match one more point on a kill by Katelyn Walsh, but the Broncos finished it out on a kill by leader Kendra Schwein.

Schwein led all players with 15 kills, adding 10 digs for a double-double. Kirsten Nickel also had double digit kills with 10.

Batie led the Prairie Wolves with eight kills and five blocks.
