Morningside College came in to Snyder Arena and spoiled the Prairie Wolves Dig Pink match as the Mustangs swept past NWU in three sets, 3-0, in GPAC volleyball action on homecoming Saturday (Oct. 20) in Lincoln.
Morningside won in scores of 26-24, 25-21, 25-15. The loss snaps NWU's three-match winning streak as they fall to 12-11 overall and 6-4 in GPAC. Morningside improves to 14-11, 5-7 GPAC.
Set one was very competitive as neither team led by more than three points in the set. NWU pulled away for a 23-21 lead but Morningside scored three straight to have a set point. Anastasia Ott came through with the winning kill for the 26-24 win.
More of the same came in set two as the teams traded blows point for point. The Prairie Wolves built a three-point lead at 21-18 and looked to be in control of the set. Morningside called a timeout and responded with seven unanswered points.
The Mustangs jumped on NWU early in the third set and cruised to the 25-15 win.
Cody Long paced Nebraska Wesleyan with 12 kills, as the Prairie Wolves hit just .087 as a team.
Maggie Vondrak recorded 12 kills for Morningside.
