Nebraska Wesleyan extended its winning streak to three matches as the Prairie Wolves swept past Dakota Wesleyan University, 3-0, on Friday night (Oct. 19)at Snyder Arena in Lincoln. NWU won in scores of 25-22, 25-17, 25-18.
The Prairie Wolves improve to 12-10 overall and 6-4 in the GPAC to move into a tie for fifth in the league standings.
NWU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first set, but DWU came back and took their first lead at 11-10. Two straight NWU kills got the lead back and the Prairie Wolves would not trail again in the set. Two straight kills by Katelyn Walsh sealed the 25-22 set victory.
In set two Dakota Wesleyan used two straight Prairie Wolf errors to lead 4-1 early. NWU clawed back to tie the match at 7-7. The Prairie Wolves would reel off five straight points to take a 11-7 lead and control of the set. Cicely Batie had back-to-back kills, then Walsh sealed the set win with a kill of her own as NWU pounded out 17 in the set.
The third set was more of the same as NWU led 5-0 early and cruised to the victory. A block by Batie and Walsh sent the homecoming fans home with a smile on their face as the Prairie Wolves completed the sweep.
Walsh led NWU with 11 kills, while Karny Kuehl and Cody Long each had nine. Alex Springman had 26 assists with two service aces, while Mackenzie Hite had 19 digs and an ace.
NWU will be right back in action on Saturday (Oct. 20) as they host Morningside College for their annual Dig Pink match.
