The Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball team ended another long losing streak for the second consecutive home match as the Prairie Wolves swept past Northwestern College, 3-0, in GPAC volleyball on Saturday (Oct. 13) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln. NWU won in scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-17.

It was the first NWU win over Northwestern in volleyball since the 2000 season as the Red Raiders had won 11 straight over the Prairie Wolves. NWU ended a 20-match losing streak against Doane in their previous home match. The win marks just the fifth time NWU has defeated Northwestern in volleyball in 34 meetings.

With the victory, the Prairie Wolves even both their overall and conference record. NWU is now 10-10 overall and 4-4 in the GPAC, while Northwestern, who is receiving votes in the NAIA National Poll, falls to 16-7, 5-4 in GPAC.

Set one was very competitive with both teams trading blows back and forth. The match looked as if it would be even throughout but the Prairie Wolves came out on top at the end of the first two sets. Set three was taken over late by NWU as they earned the sweep.

Katelyn Walsh led the NWU attack with 14 kills. Karny Kuehl added nine kills, while Cicely Batie had eight.

No player reached double figures in kills for Northwestern as they were led by Kaitlin Floerchinger with eight kills.

NWU will next be in action on Tuesday (Oct. 13) when they travel to Seward, Neb., to face Concordia University.
