19th-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan picked up its 22nd win of the season as the Prairie Wolves swept Concordia University, 3-0, in GPAC Volleyball action on homecoming Saturday afternoon (Oct. 23) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln. NWU won in scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-15.
It was the annual Dig Pink Event for NWU volleyball as the team wore pink uniforms and raised over $2,000 for breast cancer awareness.
NWU now improves to 22-3 overall and 11-2 in GPAC play, giving them the most conference victories in school history. It sets up the biggest week of the season in the GPAC as Nebraska Wesleyan will host the top two teams in the league next week. NWU hosts rival Doane College on Wednesday, then takes on undefeated Northwestern College on Saturday afternoon.
The Prairie Wolves had another solid effort in the win over Concordia as they built up a five point early lead in set one. The Bulldogs rallied to go ahead 18-17, but Kelsey Elman had a pair of kills to regain the lead and NWU would hold on for the 25-23 win.
Concordia led 20-18 in set two before a Hannah Behrens service ace tied the match at 20-20. Allee Kuska got a kill to put NWU up 23-21, then Elman had two more kills including the set winner for the 25-22 win.
Set three was controlled by the Prairie Wolves as they got ahead 17-9 and never looked back. Behrens put an exclamation point on the match as she got match point on a slam after an overpass for the 25-15 win.
Elman was the only NWU player to reach double figures in kills with 11. Behrens added nine kills and Kuska added eight kills.
Sloan Brandon led Concordia with 12 kills.
