Nebraska Wesleyan University placed seven members of the softball team on the 2012 Great Plains Athletic Conference Softball All-Conference team that was announced Tuesday (May 8). NWU sophomore Becky Bomberger was named to the All-GPAC First-Team to highlight the Nebraska Wesleyan selections.
Three players were selected to the All-GPAC Second-Team. Infielder Megan Tieken, utility player Anna Brownell and catcher Kayla Randel were all Second-Team All-GPAC. Lauren Bodfield, Dani Bryant and Brenna Maguire all received All-GPAC honorable mention recognition.
Bomberger (So., Crete, Neb.) led the Prairie Wolves in nearly every offensive category this season. She batted .383 with 44 hits, 20 runs, nine doubles, three triples, five home runs and 24 RBI, leading the team in each of those areas. The Crete H.S., product finished fifth in the GPAC in batting average and fourth in slugging percentage. She was one of two NWU players to play in every game during the 2012 season. This is Bomberger’s second All-Conference honor as she was 2nd-Team All-GPAC in 2011 as a designated player.
Tieken (Jr., Omaha, Neb.) earns her first All-Conference honor as she was named Second-Team All-GPAC as an infielder. Tieken started 30 games in the infield with 26 starts at second base for NWU. She ended the year second on the team in batting average hitting .344 with 31 hits and seven doubles.
Brownell (Sr., Wakefield, Neb.) also earns her first All-Conference recognition to close out her career. Brownell was named 2nd-Team All-GPAC as utility infielder. Brownell started 18 games at shortstop and 10 games at second base in 2012. She was 
third on the team with a .300 average to go along with seven doubles.
Randel (So., Beatrice, Neb.) was the starting catcher for the Prairie Wolves for the second straight season as she started all 36 games behind the plate. Randel earns her second consecutive All-Conference honor after being named honorable mention All-GPAC as a freshman. Randel was second on the team with 14 RBI and also second with six stolen bases. She threw out 8-28 runners 
attempting to steal a base.
Bodfield (Jr., Lincoln, Neb.) earns her second All-GPAC honor as she was Second-Team All-GPAC as a freshman in 2010. In 2012, Bodfield moved to first base and tied for the team lead with nine doubles and three triples. She now moves up to tie for fourth on the all-time career doubles list with 28.
Bryant (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) becomes a four-time All-GPAC player. She was First-Team All-GPAC the past two seasons and 2nd-Team in 2009. Bryant battled back from a 2011 knee injury and started 34 games in the outfield. She was still among the GPAC leaders with 16 stolen bases. The Lincoln Southwest H.S., product finishes her career as the all-time leader in stolen bases with 104 (50 more than 2nd place), she ranks fourth in career hits (151) and sixth in career batting average (.358).
Maguire (Sr., Treynor, Iowa) was the No. 1 pitcher for the Prairie Wolves this season going 8-11 with a 3.14 ERA. Maguire was Second-Team All-GPAC in 2011. As a senior she struck out 93 batters and had 17 complete games. Maguire ends her career second on the NWU career strikeout charts with 285. She is fifth in career victories with 28 and tied for second with 76 career appearances.
Andrea Gonzalez from Doane College was the GPAC Player-of-the-Year, Katie VandeVoort from Northwestern was Pitcher-of-the-Year and Chris Nachtigall from Northwestern College was GPAC Coach of the Year.
Nebraska Wesleyan finished the season with a 15-21. NWU was 9-11 in GPAC play and just missed qualifying for the Postseason Tournament by finishing ninth.
