Nebraska Wesleyan held a 4-1 lead over GPAC leading Northwestern College heading into the bottom of the seventh inning but the Prairie Wolves couldn't hold on as the Red Raiders scored four runs to come away with a 5-4 victory in game one of a GPAC softball doubleheader on Thursday (Apr. 26) in Orange City, Iowa. Northwestern then completed the sweep with a 6-2 win in game two.

With the sweep, the Red Raiders clinched the GPAC softball regular season championship.

Nebraska Wesleyan falls into a tie for eighth place in the GPAC standings and puts themselves in a must-win situation to qualify for the GPAC Tournament. NWU has four games remaining, as does Hastings College who is tied with NWU.

The Prairie Wolves looked poised to pull the upset in game as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Megan Tieken hit an RBI single and Anna Brownell had an RBI double. The inning could have been bigger, but Dani Bryant was called out on an apparent sacrifice fly for leaving the base early and Tieken was thrown out at third base on Brownell's double.

Northwestern cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third on a solo home run.

The Prairie Wolves added two more in the top of the sixth as Ashalla Dyer hit a two-run single.

The Red Raiders led off the 7th with a single and walk and with one out the first run scored on a single. A hit batter loaded the bases, a walk brought in a run and a flyout kept the bases loaded with two out. Kami Kuhlman then delivered the game-winning single to score two.

Five different players had a hit for NWU, while Brenna Maguire took the loss allowing five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.

Northwestern jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second game and cruised to the win.

Tieken and Brownell both had RBI singles in the 6th inning for the only runs of the game for the Prairie Wolves.

NWU now travels to Sioux Center, Iowa on Saturday for a very important doubleheader at Dordt College. They close the season on April 30 at home versus Mount Marty.
