Nebraska Wesleyan scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 2-1 deficit and then held on for a 7-5 victory over Midland University in game one of a GPAC softball doubleheader on Tuesday evening (Apr. 10) at University Place Park in Lincoln. Midland came back to win game two, 9-1, in five innings.

Midland pitcher Sammy Hislop held the NWU bats at bay earlier in the game. NWU finally got on the board in the fourth inning as Lauren Bodfield walked moved to second on a wild pitch and eventually scored on a passed ball.

The Warriors (13-21, 1-1 GPAC) took the 2-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth. The Prairie Wolves (9-13, 3-3 GPAC) then took over at the plate. Megan Tieken doubled, then three straight walks scored Tieken. Dani Bryant then got an RBI on a groundout leaving two on with two outs. Kayla Randel sent a shot to center field to bring in two runs, Becky Bomberger hit an RBI single and Bodfield brought in Bomberger with a double.

Midland made a run in the seventh inning as they scored three runs and had the tying run on second base, but Brenna Maguire got the final out on a strike out looking.

Maguire (4-8) got the complete game victory allowing five earned runs on 12 hits with four strikeouts and nine walks.

Bryant and Tieken both had two hits to lead NWU at the plate.

In game two, Kathy Curtis hit a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning and Midland cruised the rest of the way. The Warriors finished with 11 total hits.

NWU managed just two hits in the second game as Becky Bomberger and Megan Throener each singled. The lone NWU run came in the bottom of the first as Bryant walked, stole second and scored on a throwing error on the sacrifice bunt attempt.
