Another Split for NWU Softball

April 5, 2012

For the fourth straight doubleheader the Nebraska Wesleyan University softball team split a doubleheader as they split with York College on Thursday (Apr. 5) at York, Neb. The Panthers won game one, 2-0, with the Prairie Wolves bouncing back to take game two, 3-2.

NWU (5-11) has now split all four of their season doubleheaders during the 2012 season.

The Prairie Wolves managed just three hits in the first game as they were shutout by Panthers pitcher Tiffany Cole. Meanwhile, NWU pitcher Brenna Maguire allowed only two hits and one earned run but was the hard luck loser. The Prairie Wolves couldn't take advantage of the three York errors as they left nine runners on base.

In the second game, York led 2-0 after three innings. NWU got their first run of the day in the top of the fourth as Becky Bomberger hit a solo home run.

NWU took the lead in the sixth inning as Jenna Beckner reached on an error to lead off the inning. Dani Bryant singled, then Bomberger singled to drive in Beckner. The eventual game-winning hit was a double by Anna Brownell to drive in Bomberger.

York (10-17) threatened in the sixth but left the bases loaded.

Megan Cottier improved to 3-4 on the season getting the win for NWU. She allowed two earned runs and six hits in the complete game victory. Bomberger finished 3-3 with 2 RBI at the plate.

NWU now travels to the Grinnell Tournament this weekend (Apr. 6-7) for four games.
