Simpson College pitchers held the Nebraska Wesleyan batters in check allowing the Prairie Wolves just eight hits as the Storm swept a softball doubleheader, 5-1, and 6-0 on Wednesday night (Mar. 26) in Lincoln, Neb.
Both pitchers were in control of game one as the game was scoreless through three innings. Simpson (13-5) finally got on the board in the top of the fourth as they scored an unearned run after a NWU error. NWU answered in the bottom of the fourth when Kelsey Worley hit an infield single to drive in Marcia Kennedy who reached on a single.
Simpson added a run in the sixth as Jessica Barkley led off the inning with a pinch hit home run. The Storm then scored three runs in the seventh to seal the win.
Ashley Tiedgen (3-1) took the loss allowing four earned runs and 10 hits.
The Storm got on NWU pitcher Alysia Wittmaack for five runs in the top of the second of game two as Simpson cruised to a 6-0 victory. Wittmaack settled down to allow just seven hits while striking out eight, but NWU could not get anything going offensively.
The Prairie Wolves are right back in action on Thursday (Mar. 27) when they host conference rival Doane College at 5:00 p.m. at University Place Park in a GPAC doubleheader.
