Softball Drops Three Straight Games

April 20, 2008

After winning nine out of their last 10 games, the Nebraska Wesleyan softball team dropped three games in a row to end their weekend road swing. The Prairie Wolves opened with a 8-0 win at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D., on Friday night (Apr. 18) but then lost game two, 4-3. NWU was shutout in a doubleheader sweep by Northwestern College on Saturday in Orange City, Iowa. The Red Raiders defeated NWU, 2-0, in both games.

Nebraska Wesleyan, ranked 6th in the NCAA III Regional Rankings that were released last week, falls to 19-13 overall and 9-9 in the GPAC.

The Prairie Wolves had four straight shutout victories by eight runs or more before the 1-run loss at DWU. NWU actually led 3-2 heading into the seventh against the Tigers, but a two-out single followed a walk then both runners scored on a misplay in the outfield.

At Northwestern, the Prairie Wolves had a combined five total hits in the two shutout losses. NWU had been shut out just one time all season before the two losses to the Red Raiders.

NWU will look to get back to its winning ways on Wednesday (Apr. 23) when they travel to Blair, Neb., to take on Dana College. They will then close out the regular season with trips to Hastings College on Friday and at Dordt College on Saturday.
