Softball Easily Sweeps Bethel

Nebraska Wesleyan improved to 4-1 on the early season as they swept past Bethel College (Kan.) in easy fashion on Tuesday (Mar. 12) in North Newton, Kan. The Prairie Wolves won 19-4 in five innings in the first game, then took the second game, 14-2.

The Prairie Wolves took advantage of 13 walks in the first game, while recording nine hits. Megan Tieken and Jessica Weingarten each had two hits with five RBI, while Rachel Kubik was 3-4 with four RBI. Sarah Hove hit a 2-run home run and Tieken had a three-run homer for the big blows of the game. Megan Cottier improved to 2-0 going all five innings and striking out five.

In game two, the Prairie Wolves erupted for nine runs in the top of the sixth inning to put the game away. NWU had nine total hits in the inning as they ran away with the contest. Bethel scored their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Cottier also pitched the complete game in the nightcap allowing two earned runs on six hits to move to 3-0.

Kubik had another big game at the plate for the Prairie Wolves going 3-4 with four RBI on two doubles. Betsy Reimer was 3-4 with two RBI, while Kassie Knaus also had two RBI on three hits.
