NWU Women Advance to NAIA Championships

Lincoln, Neb. –The Nebraska Wesleyan women’s tennis team will be headed to its second straight NAIA Championships after the Prairie Wolves won the GPAC/NAIA Region III Tournament on Saturday (May 3) over Concordia University.  NWU defeated the Bulldogs, 5-2 in the championship in Fremont.  The Prairie Wolves beat the University of Sioux Falls, 5-1, in the semifinals on Friday after losing to USF in the final regular season match of the season.

The NAIA Championships will be held May 12-16 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.  The tournament will feature 24 teams with 14 automatic qualifiers and 10 at-large selections. 

NWU will face Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) in the first round of the Championships. This will be the second time the two teams have met this season. Southern Nazarene defeated NWU, 7-2, in the first meeting between the two teams on April 5.

This is the second straight year the NWU women have qualified for the NAIA Championships after qualifying for the first time in school history in 2007.

NWU has an overall record of 15-8 this season.  The Prairie Wolves shared the regular season GPAC championship with Dordt College after finishing with a 7-1 conference record.
