Prairie Wolves Place 2nd at GPAC Championships

Sioux City. Iowa – Both the Nebraska Wesleyan men and women track & field teams finished as the runner-up in the team race at the 2008 Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday (May 3) in Sioux City, Iowa. Doane College won the team title for the men and the women.

The NWU men had their streak of 19 straight conference titles snapped as Doane scored 212 points to defeat NWU by 34 points. NWU had 178 team points while Concordia was third with 164.

On the women's side, Doane outscored NWU, 208-172 while Concordia was third with 106.5 points.

Three individuals and one relay team were crowned champions on Saturday for the Prairie Wolves women. Jackie Spelts won the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:45.50, Brittany Hubbard was the champion in the 10,000 meters at 38:36.58 and Holly Andrews won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.40. The 4x100 relay team comprised of Anne Kersenbrock, Andrews, Michelle Tiedke and Katie Dobesh also was GPAC champions at 48.25.

Four other women finished as GPAC runner-up. Katie Dobesh in the 100 meters, Devan Aschtgen in the 400 meters, Kersenbrock in the long jump and Lindsey Snowdon in the javelin.

For the NWU men, one individual was a GPAC champion. Nick Green had a jump of 46-7.50 to win the GPAC triple jump title. Six other men were runner-up in their events. Dan Bittner in the 100 meters, Jason Peters in the 200 meters, Chris Wolf in the 400 meters, Evan Knight in the 800 meters, Chris Dunker in the 10,000 meters and Kyle Wagner in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Also the 4x100 relay team of Bittner, Matt Glassnap, Austin Novotny and Peters also placed second.
