Pairings Set for GPAC Baseball Tournament

Lincoln, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan received the sixth seed for the 2008 Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball postseason tournament which is set for May 1-3 in Sioux Falls, S.D. NWU will take on the No. 3 seed, Morningside College, at 3 p.m., on Thursday at Harmodon Park in Sioux Falls.

The Prairie Wolves finished the GPAC season with a 13-11 conference record to earn the sixth seed. Morningside finished the season with a 15-9 GPAC record. Northwestern College won the regular season GPAC title and is the top seed with a 18-6 record.

The winner of the GPAC Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NAIA Region III Tournament which will be played May 8-10 in Mayville, N.D.

NWU and Morningside split the season series playe on April 13 in Lincoln. NWU won game one, 2-1, in 10 innings, then the Mustangs took game two, 8-3. If NWU wins they will face the winner of the Briar Cliff/Sioux Falls game at 7 pm. If NWU loses game one they will take on the loser of the BCU/USF game at 7 pm in an elimination game.

This is the fourth time that the Prairie Wolves have qualified for the GPAC Postseason Tournament. NWU has a 3-6 all-time record in the tournament.

The GPAC Tournament will be played according to the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association Eight-Team Double-Elimination Bracket. All games on day one will be 7-innings with the rest of the tournament being 9-inning games.
