Tennis Teams Successful in South Carolina
HILTON HEAD, S.C. —The Nebraska Wesleyan tennis teams were very successful on their spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. Both the NWU men and women were 4-1 on the trip losing just one match apiece. The men bounced back from an opening loss to Allegheny College to win four straight matches, while the NWU women won the first four before dropping the final match to St. Michael's College.
The men, now 8-5 overall, lost 6-3 to Allegheny on Mar. 16 to open the week. They then won the final four matches. The Prairie Wolves defeated Grove City (5-4), Westminster College, Pa. (9-0), Tiffin (6-3) and St. Michael's (7-2).
The Prairie Wolves women improved to 7-4 overall. NWU defeated Allegheny (6-3), Grove City (8-1), Westminster (9-0) and Tiffin (8-1).
A highlight of the NWU men was the play of Jamie Holmes. Holmes was 5-0 at No. 1 singles, coming from behind in most of his victories. He also joined older brother Eric Holmes to go 3-2 at doubles. Eric Holmes was 4-1 at No. 3 singles for NWU.
Also for NWU, Nate Anderson was 3-2 at No. 2 singles and 4-1 at No. 2 doubles with Eric Tesmer. Tesmer was 3-2 individually. Eric Hanson was 3-2 at No. 5 singles and 3-2 at No. 3 doubles with Mike Larson. Also playing for NWU at singles was Scott Ronshagen who went 2-2 at No. 6 singles.
For the NWU women, Chelsee Henslee was a perfect 10-0 in Hilton Head. Henslee was 5-0 at No. 3 singles, and joined Sarah Howe to go 5-0 at No. 3 doubles.
The doubles team of Mikaela Caudill and Alex Yeagley also were a perfect 5-0 at No. 2 doubles. Caudill was 3-2 at No. 2 singles, while Yeagley was 4-1 at No. 4 singles.
Lexie Zoucha was also a perfect 5-0 at No. 5 singles.
At No. 1 singles, Mikayla Albin was 3-2. Albin joined Becca Brown to go 2-3 at No. 1 doubles. Brown was 1-2 at No. 6 singles.
The NWU tennis teams will be back in action on March 26, when they host Midland Lutheran College at 4 p.m. in GPAC play.
