NWU Sending Seven to NCAA III Track Nationals

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska Wesleyan University will have seven athletes competing at the 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships that will take place March 14-15 at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.  Four men and three women have qualified for the track & field championships for the Prairie Wolves.

Senior Chris Wolf leads the NWU men into the championships.  Wolf qualified in the men’s 400-meter dash.  The Ceresco, Neb., native enters the championships with the fastest time in NCAA III (48.46). 

Wolf will be joined by three teammates in the 4x400 relay in the other event for the NWU men.  Other NWU athletes on the 4x400 relay are senior Jason Peters (Lincoln, Neb.), junior Derek Carson (Lincoln, Neb.) and sophomore Andy Coppersmith (Wallace, Neb.).  The quartet of Prairie Wolves enter the championships with the fastest time in NCAA III (3:16.58).  Wolf and Peters were both members of the 4x400 team the past two years that helped the team earn All-America honors each season.

Three Nebraska Wesleyan women qualified for the NCAA III National Meet.  Two women will participate in the high jump for the Prairie Wolves.  Sophomore Mikaela Richard (Lincoln, Neb.) comes into the meet with a leap of 5-6 ½, which is the third best jump in Division III this season.  Also competing in the high jump for NWU is junior Jenna Davies (Columbus, Neb.).  Davies enters the meet with a jump of 5-5, the 11th best jump in the country.

Senior Holly Andrews (Seward, Neb.) is the other NWU athlete to qualify for the National Meet.  Andrews will compete in the 55-meter hurdles.  She enters the meet with a time of 8.18, which is the third fastest time in the country this season.
