NWU qualifies eight for NCAA Dic. III Indoor

Nebraska Wesleyan coaches hoped to be sending their normal contingent of between 12 and 20 student-athletes to the 2007 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend. However, closed roads and interstates late last week made a trip to Iowa State University impossible and eliminated their final opportunity to qualify. As a result, only eight Prairie Wolves are traveling to the national meet, which starts tomorrow at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.

NWU Women’s Qualifiers:
Holly Andrews (Jr., Seward, Neb., Seward High School), 55 hurdles, 8.34*
Jenna Davies (So., Columbus, Neb., Columbus High School), high jump, 5’5 1/4

NWU Men’s Qualifiers:
Gordie Coffin (Sr., Osceola, Neb., Osceola High School), 55 dash, 6.40*
Jed Droge (Sr., Pawnee City, Neb., Pawnee City High School), long jump, 23’5 1/4
Jason Peters (Jr., Lincoln, Neb., Southwest High School), 55 dash, 6.39*

4x400 Relay, 3:17.08*
-Chris Wolf (Jr., Ceresco, Neb., Raymond Central High School)
-Jason Peters (Jr., Lincoln, Neb., Southwest High School)

Peters and Wolf also qualified individually in the 400-meter dash, as did Knight in the 800, but they will focus their energies on the relay instead. Peters, who has been named Central Region Indoor Men’s Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, will also compete in the 55-meter dash.

Droge will lead off for the Prairie Wolves, competing in the men’s long jump at 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by Davies in the women’s high jump at 3:30. Andrews will compete in the prelims of the 55-meter hurdles at 4:35. Coffin and Peters will then take the track at 5:35 for the 55 prelims.

On Saturday, the finals of the women’s 55 hurdles and men’s 55 are scheduled for 2:25 and 3:15, respectively. The men’s 4x400-meter relay will commence at 4:45. For heat sheets, meet information and a complete schedule of events, click here.
