2006 Season Wrap-up
After sharing the GPAC team title
with Concordia University (Neb.) in 2005, the NWU women dominated
the conference meet in 2006 by sweeping the top three spots and
placing five runners in the Top 10. Junior Brittany Hubbard repeated
as individual champion, winning the 5K race in 19:02.15. Junior
Amber Brandenburger placed second, sophomore Bridget Baldwin took
third, junior Mikayla Rhone placed seventh and senior Ashley Sabin
finished 10th. These athletes, along with sophomore Laurel Johnson,
each earned All-GPAC honors.
Riding momentum from their conference success, the
women took third at the Central Region Championships. Brandenburger
and Hubbard placed seventh and ninth, respectively, as the NWU women
qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships and made their ninth
trip to nationals as a team in the last 11 years.
The Prairie Wolves went on to place 23rd in the
team standings and ended the season, which included runner-up finishes
at both the Woody Greeno and Loyola invitationals, ranked 21st in
the Div. III rankings. |
