2005-06 Spring Season Wrap-up

After narrowly qualifying in the fall, the NWU women’s golf team made quite a showing at the NAIA Region III Championships and nearly qualified for the national meet.

Under third-year head coach Stacy Graham, the Prairie Wolves placed second at the regional, just seven strokes behind Dakota Wesleyan University. Senior Caitlin Johnson had the best two rounds of her career (85-83) to earn individual runner-up honors, and sophomore Joslin Roach placed 11th at 178.

Johnson also joined senior Jennifer Gloystein and junior Jessica Mertens in being named Daktronics/NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes.

2006-07 Fall Season Wrap-up

After losing two of NWU’s varsity golfers to graduation, the women’s team had some big shoes to fill this fall. The Prairie Wolves started off the year with an 11th-place showing at the Wartburg College Fall Invitational on Sept. 9. Junior Amber Edwards tied for 24th place individually with a score of 84. Three days later, sophomore Sarah Hannon was the team’s top finisher at the GPAC Preview Tournament, placing 15th (91) and helping Nebraska Wesleyan finish 10th.

Senior Jessica Mertens led the team to another 10th-place finish by tying for 31st with 178 strokes at the NWU Fall Invitational. On Oct. 6, the women posted their highest finish of the season as they took third at the Peru State College Bobcat Invitational. Hannon and first-year golfer Kiley Miller each finished in the top 10, placing eighth (89) and ninth (91), respectively.

Edwards led the team in its final two meets of the season as NWU tied for sixth at the Concordia University (Neb.) Invitational and tied for seventh at the GPAC Championships. Individually, Edwards placed sixth at Concordia (85) and 18th at conference (188).
