NWU HANDS OUT 132 ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE
HONORS,
RECOGNIZES OUTSTANDING ATHLETES, UNSUNG HEROES
Student-athletes from Nebraska Wesleyan University
earned a total of 132 Pflieger-Olson Scholar-Athlete Awards during
the 2005-06 school year. The awards are given by the Great Plains
Athletic Conference to team contributors who have a minimum cumulative
grade point average of 3.30 and are enrolled in at least their third
term at the institution.
Among the honorees are 15 student-athletes who earned
the award in two sports, including: Amber Brandenburger, Chris Dunker,
Ethan Evert, Seth Evert, Amanda Godemann, Blake Henning, Evan Knight,
Jeremy Sokol, Ben Thayer and Patience Vander Plaats (cross country
and track and field), Molly Hines, Stephanie Kaiser and Amy Vanderkolk
(volleyball and track and field) and Chris Krueger and Brandon Minch
(football and track and field).
NWU’s Outstanding Male and Female Athletes
for 2005-06 also made the lists. Erin Powell (Sr., Beaver City,
Neb., Southern Valley High School) was named Outstanding Female
Athlete for her efforts in track and field, while the Outstanding
Male Athlete award went to football standout Cody Hoegh (Sr., Aurora,
Neb., Aurora High School). The NWU Booster Club presents the awards
annually to the senior athletes who, by their athletic achievements,
leadership and character, best represent the Nebraska Wesleyan athletic
tradition.
In addition, NWU’s Unsung Hero Award went
to a pair of seniors who both served as President of the Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee. Tim Beckmann (Sr., Waco, Neb., Nebraska Lutheran
High School) from the men’s track and field team also worked
for four years in the sports information office, while Jennifer
Gloystein (Sr., York, Neb., York High School) from the women’s
golf team was a valuable asset to other student-athletes due to
her efforts in the training room.
The Unsung Hero Award is given to students who have
contributed to NWU Athletics in a positive manner and have not received
much publicity for their efforts. The purpose of this award is to
recognize graduating seniors who have worked hard in or for athletics
without thought to personal gain or honor.
