For the fourth year in a row, Nebraska Wesleyan’s indoor track and field teams brought home both team titles from the Dennis Young Invitational hosted by Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.

The NWU men scored 261.5 points on the day, more than double that of the second-place team. Junior sprinter Jason Peters led the men, winning both the 200 and 400. His time of 48.95 in the 400 broke the school record, meet record and is the fastest time in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) so far this season.

Junior Holly Andrews led the women, who won with 198 points, by winning the 55 hurdles and finishing third in the 200. First-year sprinter Anne Kersenbrock was the individual runner-up in both the 55 and 200.

Amber Brandenburger (mile), Bridget Baldwin (3,000), Brittany Hubbard (5,000), Mikaela Richard (high jump), Gordie Coffin (55), Alex Praus (55 hurdles), Evan Knight (600), Ben Thayer (800), Brian Copley (3,000) and Chris Dunker (5,000) were among Nebraska Wesleyan’s other event winners. In addition, Ryan Petersen and Derek Zulkoski shared top honors in the men’s pole vault.

In addition to Peters, NWU student-athletes established meet records in five other events, including Coffin in the 55 (6.50), Knight in the 600 (1:22.49), Petersen and Zulkoski in the pole vault (4.70 meters), Brandenburger in the mile (5:08.75), and Baldwin in the 3,000 (10:25.68). Marks by Baldwin, Brandenburger, Coffin and Knight each rank first in the GPAC this year.

Buena Vista, Central College, Coe College, Grinnell College, Loras College and Simpson College were among the other participating teams.
