NWU Athletes Receive GPAC Honors

Nebraska Wesleyan University senior women’s track athlete Holly Andrews was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference/Hauff Mid-America Sports women’s track athlete-of-the-week for the week of Feb. 11-17. On the men’s side, the Prairie Wolves men’s 4x400 relay team of Jason Peters, Chris Wolf, Andy Coppersmith and Derek Carson received the men’s track athlete-of-the-week honor.

Andrews, a senior from Seward, Neb., placed first in the 55 meter hurdles and the 200 meters at the NWU Quad Meet on Saturday (Feb. 16). Her time of 8.24 in the 55 hurdles is the fastest time in NCAA DIII this season, and the third fastest time in school history. She ran a time of 26.35 in the 200.

The men’s 4x400 relay team ran a time of 3:22.17 to win the event at the NWU Quad Meet. The time set a new Knight Fieldhouse record. Running on the relay team were Peters, a senior from Lincoln, Wolf, a senior from Ceresco, Neb., Coppersmith, a sophomore from Wallace, Neb., and Carson a junior from Lincoln.

The Nebraska Wesleyan track teams will participate in the 2008 GPAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this Saturday (Feb. 23) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
