Nebraska Wesleyan University had five track & field athletes named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country teams that were announced on Thursday (June 5). Seniors Holly Andrews and Evan Knight joined junior Derek Carson on the District VII First-Team in the college division. Seniors Amanda Godeman and Chris Dunker were both voted to the Second-Team.

Andrews, Knight and Carson now advance to the ballots for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America track & field/cross country team. The men’s team will be announced June 23 and the women’s team will be released on June 25.

Andrews (Seward, Neb.) has a 3.99 GPA with an exercise science major. She was a Second-Team Academic All-District VII pick in 2007. In her track & field career, she was a three-time All-American, eight-time NCAA qualifier, a five-time conference champion and earned 18 All-Conference honors. She set the NWU school record in the 100 hurdles this season.

Knight (Keystone, Neb.) has a 3.99 GPA with a history & Spanish major. He was Academic All-America First-Team last year and Second-Team in 2006. Knight is a six-time All-American, two-time GPAC Champion and seven-time GPAC runner-up.

Carson (Lincoln, Neb.) has a 3.86 GPA with a history major. Carson was part of the 2008 NCAA Division III National Runner-up 4x100 meter relay team at the Outdoor Championships and the National Runner-up 4x400 meter relay team at the Indoor Championships to earn two All-American honors.

Godeman (Lincoln, Neb.) has a 3.96 GPA with a Global Studies major. She was a National qualifier in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and set a new school record in the event.

Dunker (Beatrice, Neb.) has a 3.50 GPA as an English major. He was a two-time All-American in cross country and the GPAC Runner-of-the-Year. Dunker was also a 14-time All-Conference selection in track & field.

Student-athletes must meet four criteria to earn ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honors: 1) must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better, 2) must have at least two terms of attendance at the institution, 3) must be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility, 4) must be a starter or key reserve in their respective sport.

The All-District selection is determined by voting of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). District VII is comprised of NCAA Division II and Division III and NAIA institutions from the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
